As a life-long owner of cattle dogs, I have seen the herding instinct up close and personal. Cats, squirrels, children, whatever – they are all fair game.
If you’re an Australian Shepherd cross, you even have to herd people and cats! Mackie is never happy until we’re all in the same room with him! And outside, he tries to herd grasshoppers, toads, turtles, whatever!

I used to be a contender, now I’m reduced to herding turtles.
Great pic of a border collie herding…too cute.
We had a Sheltie & she used to try to herd tennis balls when we’d throw three across the room!
Perfect caption on the cartoon! Thanks for the early morning laugh.
We had a German Shepherd who used to herd the cats—successfully, I may add! I love the cartoon and the photo. They both capture the situation so well!
